A Friend

Friend.  Companion.  Someone you can confide in.  Someone who looks out for you.  Someone who tells you that everything is going to be OK.   - Samuel

That is how I define a friend. Everyone has had at least one person in their lives they can call a friend.  I cannot count the number of people I have called mein.  Some faces I cannot remember.  Some names I have forgotten.  The one thing I cannot forget is the lasting impression some have made on me.  So, let me tell you rather quickly about my friend in Kuwait.  Not just a friend, an acquaintance, but someone I can depend on, who understands me, and who wants to see me happy.

With everything going full speed with Lana and I, everyone is aware of the myriad of problems that can arise.  They are also not too shy about sharing these thoughts with me.  After the repetitive onslaught of “what if’s,” doubt creeps in.  So, I turn to my friend and bombard her with all the thoughts running through my mind, most of which are not positive.  What do I get in return?

I don’t get pity.  I don’t get sympathy.  I get someone who tells me to quit thinking, that everything will be OK.  Problems could happen, but they won’t.  The times I was ready to give up on all of this, or question if it is all worth it, I was and am fortunate enough to have someone tell me that this is right.  If the end result is my happiness, then the struggle is worth it.

I can’t wait to have all of this out of the way and to just have the chance to be happy with Lana, and to have her meet “you.”  You know who you are, and I cannot thank you enough.  Thank you for everything.  For knowing what to say, for understanding my thoughts, and for setting me straight when I really needed it.  You are my friend, in every sense of the word.

-Samuel
