Nar Mustamira (Continuous Fire)
I was given this link by a friend of mine. It’s a teaser to a documentary that I am trying to track down. The two topics covered in this rather short video include women struggling with their sexuality in Egypt, and men harassing women on the street. In western society you are heterosexual, homosexual, unisexual, or bisexual. There are labels, and I agree with the statement in this video about having to pick one. Unfortunately at this time, anything other than heterosexual will not be widely accepted in many places in the world. It exists, but it isn’t accepted, and in many cases it is not tolerated.
On the harassment issue, there was a comment that “Whoever is oppressed, oppresses.” I am familiar with women being harassed in Egypt by men, whom are oppressed to some extent as well, but if this statement is true, who are the women oppressing?
Anyway, give the video a look. See what you think. Do you think harassment occurs to the same level if not more where you are living? I’m speaking widespread here, not isolated incidents. Do you fight back? Were you raised not to yell or make a scene in public, so you have no choice? (That was an issue in this video as well.)
