“That’s not in my job description!”

I hate it when people hide behind that excuse. I work in the IT field as a system administrator. I am asked to do all sorts of things from regular help desk work to troubleshooting blocked IP addresses and to theorize why a crypto-tunnel is breaking down. Alot of the stuff I do not know, but I pick up on quickly. Today my tasking was something I am familiar with, but I prefer to stay away from.

A co-worker and myself moved some furniture away from the walls in a room… (some of yall see where this is going) and proceeded to start painting. I was instantly hit with the Karate Kid wax-on, wax-off scenario. For someone who does not do manual labor unless required, we did a spot-on job. The first half of the room looks great.

Tomorrow is day 2 and that should be the end of it. We don’t have to put all the furniture together at least. The people we bought it from do that for us.

Sometimes you have to roll with the punches. I am hoping I get first cubicle choice again this time. I did when we transitioned offices last time and of course I picked the one at the end of the row with no other cubicle behind it. I sat myself behind a wall of co-workers that I use as my phalanx. Unfortunately some issues still come to me. The hard stuff, ya know, which is 60% of everything we do, or so it seems.

I love my job!
