Can You Say Minutes? In Arabic?

This is a fun thing to do to people just learning to speak Arabic, especially native English speakers.  (Yes, it has happened to me).  Ask someone to say minute in arabic.  Now ask them to say minutes.  This is fun when you say it and have them repeat.  And yes, I still can’t pronounce minutes correctly, but I do ok with “dceecah”.  If you are a native Arabic speaker you may not be able to understand what combination of words will come out, but it’s not always nice.  Do it only with friends with a good sense of humor.

Does it follow the pattern of “abaya” and come out “degeegah ahhht?”

I don’t really understand what you meant, lol. Minutes would come out like “Da8ae8.” I use the 8 for “ca” even though I don’t know if that’s the right way. It comes out sounding rather bad when a native English speaker says it. Now, if only I could get my blog to publish arabic and not ???? for words I would be happier.
