Marine Discharged for Handing Out “Christian Coins”
The US military are NOT missionaries. This marine had the audacity to hand out Christian coins in an Islamic society. From a security point of view, this is a horrible idea and could provoke violence in the area. From a former Christian point of view, I do admire what he was trying to do. Ministering the Word of God is a very important thing in the Christian religion. I applaud him for doing what he believes in, but I think his actions were stupid giving the current situation, and I do believe he endangered the lives of his fellow soldiers.
He was removed from the military.
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — A U.S. Marine in Iraq has been removed from duty amid complaints that he was handing out coins with Bible verses at an American checkpoint, the military said Thursday.
U.S. military regulations prohibit religious proselytizing.
A military spokesman said Iraqis in Falluja complained that the Marine was giving the coins, which were printed in Arabic, to people at an entry control point in Falluja.
