Strange Happenings in Kuwait
I love the “Kuwait Crime” section of the Arab Times. Alot of the crimes make me laugh. Some of them are just sad, and others are fairly ridiculous. I wish I could find the link to the account of arresting someone for practicing black magic. Anyway, here are two incidents…
A democratic monarchy with no real freedom of speech….
Ruler insulted: Police are looking for a Syrian man who is believed to be in his 30s for criticizing HH the Amir, reports Al-Dar daily.
According to a security source, the man was stopped in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and ordered to show his ID. He reportedly showed his documents insulted the police and verbally abused the Amir and escaped on foot.
However, the Al-Anba daily gave a different version of the story. The man reportedly abused the police and firemen when his house caught fire and the firemen and police were late in arriving.
The next is about a wife who had the visa of her husbands second wife cancelled. Can that legally be done without the husband’s consent? The second wife was Iraqi, so maybe it wasn’t hard at all.
Jealous first wife gets second ‘deported’
Kuwait : In a strange incident the Egyptian wife of a Kuwaiti man, whose identity has not been disclosed, used the power of attorney of her husband to cancel the residence permit of his second wife, an Iraqi, when the latter was visiting her family in Iraq, reports Alam Al-Yawm daily.
It has been reported when the Iraqi wife arrived at the Abdali border post immigration officers prevented her from entering the country.
When she called her husband, she discovered that her residence permit had been cancelled by the man’s Egyptian wife. The daily did not give more details.
I need to start keeping newspaper clippings to take home with me. The things that happen here…
