Sarah Palin: Iraq war “a task that is from God.”

That is just shocking!  In the USA, church and state (religion and government) are supposed to be separate.  Do you really want someone who could possible run the country (if McCain is unable, killed, dies, etc.) who thinks that the war in Iraq is a task that is from God?  The Iraqi’s want a pullout by 2011.  How is that going to happen if our leaders are convinced this is a tasking from the Almighty?  I just saw this article dated yesterday (according to the date stamp that is) and was horrified.  There were rumors previously about our current president stating in confidence that God told him to invade Iraq.

I for one would not vote for anyone who wanted to govern a society on something such as religion.  Governing a society strictly on religion is flawed.  People always interpret the religious laws differently and I believe it is unfair to impose the religious laws of one faith on followers of another.

On a side note, she also wanted students to pray for something in order to get an oil pipeline in Alaska for more jobs or for police to have guns.  Something stupid like that.  Guess what… yes, also the will of God.  She expects to do the will of God from the office of the Governor.  This is wrong.  Plain and simple.  Try to interpret religious law, will, or divine wishes from Christianity.  Talking about too many cooks in the kitchen…

Actually, politicians just go with the flow. People these days like to hear about God and his great plans and so on. Politicians simply satisfy this desire to get votes.

She is not stupid… she is the shepherd, leading a flock of ignorant hordes.

insane!!!!
who ever vote for them.. is just the same

Ohhhh don’t even get me started!!!!

@Anonymous: Or they actually believe it. This would be far worse in my opinion.

@no3ik: Mislead, looking for direction, and looking for belief. Some people are so afraid of religion that if they disagree with something, ANYTHING, supposedly set forth by God then they think they would burn. Alot of people go along with things like this just because they think it will bring them salvation. Speaking of some potential voters here.

@carly: Please get started! I like debates and discussions! Sometimes even just venting is OK!

The Associated Press and the Youtube video intentionally cut off the start of her sentence to quote her out of context:

What Sarah Palin actually said:

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

Here’s what the AP turns it into:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”…

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

So do you want to continue spreading a half-truth, or do you want to add an update?

@Scott: So am I to assume that you are stating that Sarah Palin was urging people to pray that our leaders are sending our troops out on a task from God? Without splitting hairs, it still seems that she hopes, even prays, that the task our troops are on is a task from God.

Can you give a source for your entire quote? If you can provide one, I will be more than happy to update the post. I have seen the videos, and it is in fact possible that they were cut off. I will try and look for the complete video on YouTube tonight.
