Prison Break Seasons 1-3 - Review

My review are not long and drawn out, so let’s make this simple.  This is the review for all 3 seasons in my short formed frustrated version.

How many bad things can happen to a group of people?  Seriously, a few mishaps is fine, but at every turn when something goes wrong, it appears they are drawing out the story in an effort to fill out more episodes.

Slightly longer…

Season 1:

I thought the idea was rather groundbreaking.  People escaping from prison.  It seems simple but I do not recall a TV series attempting this before.  In the movies, sure.  I expected, and it delievered, to have several different elements in the show, from action to drama, and even slight romantic comedy.  Many of the scenes served to show the love Skofield had for the Doctor while also foreshadowing the betrayal and attempt at reconciliation that was sure to come up in the future.

All in all I thought it was good.  The series ended with their running while being chased by police and heading straight towards the big payoff.  Something to look forward to in season 2?

Season 2:

The glimmer has started to fade from the series.  It’s Prison Break and yet it has turned into Don’t Get Caught….. Again.  The chemisry between the characters continues here and I like how we get a glimpse of the childhood of the rapist/pedophile/inbred/murder/psychopath.  There is still the mostly love relationship between Skofield and Sara, the acquisition of the money, struggle for the money, a family with a sick kid, flights out of the country, hiding from the cops, a few more murders, and the introduction of the FBI in an official yet rogue capacity.  More information is revealed about the company, which happens to be the part of this season I found most interesting.  Conspiracies and all.  At least it is going back to Prison Break, if you get my drift.

Season 3:

Too short due to the writer’s strike.  Once again they are trying to break out of prison.  I think the whole thing took place over 12 days.  They failed to escape twice at least.  New information regarding the company is kept to a minimum.  People are kidnapped, people are killed, there are power struggles in the prison (where the guards keep their distance), and some strange Australian guy with questionable purpose is thrown into the mix.  When something is unclear to the public it can lead to interest: In this case, I feel that the lack of information was a put off.  What place does he have with the company?  Does he know the captors?  Why is his damn Bird Book so important?

Final:

Season 1 was different and had enough appeal to keep me watching.  Season 2 wasn’t as interesting but is still better than some other things I have had to watch.  Season 3 was rather confusing and short.  I feel the retail price of the S3 DVDs is a ripoff due to the short amount of episodes.  I don’t watch special features.

Recommend you watch it to kill some time.  It will keep you entertained, but nothing like Criminal Minds did for me.

Yeah, I basically felt the same way about the show. The last couple of episodes weren’t too shabby though :)

Interesting blog :)
